Amazon, Bezos-MacKenzie: a 35 billion divorce

Amazon's future is assured and so is Bezos' first place in the ranking of the richest men in the world - The most expensive divorce in history ended amidst (justified) smiles from everyone - Here's what MacKenzie Tuttle will "remain" for 26-year-old wife of e-commerce tycoon

Jeff Bezos and wife MacKenzie they say goodbye with a big smile. A rather atypical "happy ending", especially if there is a betrayal, which made those directly concerned happy, but above all the Amazon shareholders, worried about the repercussions that the most expensive divorce in history could have on the giant of the ecommerce.

But all's well that ends well. Despite the multi-billion dollar divorce, Jeff Bezos remains the richest man in the world, while MacKenzie enters the ranking by right Forbes in the feminine and becomes the third richest woman on the planet, after L'Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers and daughter of Walmart founder Alice Walton.

Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Tuttle have signed divorce papers, after 26 years of marriage and four children. Married in '93, the two decided to separate due to his betrayal. An extramarital affair that ended up in the international tabloids with lots of alleged blackmail with the publication of intimate photos and denunciations of the conspiracy on his part.

Leaving aside the "gossip", it is above all what causes a sensation the “value” of this divorce. The two have decided to lay down the hatchet, finding an agreement that displeases no one. Bezos will retain a 75% controlling stake in the family company (equal to a 12% stake in Amazon) and with it also the majority of voting rights. MacKenzie also left him all stakes in the The Washington Post and in the space exploration company, Blue Origin. She will remain 25% of the family shares, equivalent to 4% of Amazon. In numbers? 35 billion dollars, about 31 billion euros.

As mentioned, the shareholders of the e-commerce giant were also happy, who after the turbulence experienced by the title in the period of greatest uproar in the story (the one in which Bezos denounced the alleged threats suffered by the National Enquirer and the betrayal ended up on all newspapers), put aside worries about the stock market future of the company. In the pre-market on Wall Street, Amazon shares are in fact positive, celebrating the agreement between the now ex-spouses.

The good relations between MacKenzie and Jeff also arrive on Twitter. After signing, she defines him as a "friend".

Instead, he thanks her for the support.
