School-work alternation: Federmeccanica, petition for 400 hours

48% of mechanical companies need qualified personnel that they cannot find on the market. At the same time "there is a need to continuously update the skills of the people already in the company in order to manage and not undergo change". This was written by Federmeccanica, which to deal with these difficulties has launched a petition in support of school-work alternation and quality training.

The association asks the Government to maintain, in particular in technical and professional institutes, 400 hours of school-work alternation (or equivalent instruments) in the three-year period for all students, and to continue to guarantee the schools concerned better tools and financial resources and not lower than those currently envisaged.

According to Federmeccanica, the school-work alternation “must be strengthened. In fact, to get to know the complex environment of a company and to learn something useful requires adequate time and the commitment of everyone: institutions, schools and businesses. Businesses don't want just any alternation but a quality alternation, based on the collaboration between schools and companies at every stage, from planning to evaluating the results. For proper functioning, structured processes are required, the use of material and immaterial resources, flexibility and the ability to adapt of each actor".

Company tutors and teachers “need continuous updating and the comparison between schools, companies and research centers must be made systematic. All of this requires regulatory, administrative and economic support”, writes the association.

Furthermore, Federmeccanica urges the Executive to recognize a tax credit, or equivalent measures, against the expenses incurred by companies for the alternation and training of personnel functional to Industry 4.0 (technologies, machinery, organization, business models).
