High speed: first Naples-Bari projects approved

Good news for Campania and Puglia who move with trains in the area between Napoli, Caserta e Bari. Step forward for the realization of Naples – Bari high-speed/high-capacity line with the approval of the preliminary planning relating to the doubling of the Cancello - Frasso Telesino section and the variant to the conventional Rome - Naples line, via Cassino, in the municipality of Maddaloni following the order of the Commissioner and CEO of the FS Italiane Group, Michael Mario Elijah, to speed up the construction of the work, included in the 'Sblocca Italia' law.

This provision constitutes a further step towardsobjective of having construction sites started by October 2015 for the construction of the Apice – Orsara railway section, Naples – Bari HS/HC line. The start of the definitive works is scheduled for 2016. The total cost of the Naples – Bari high-speed railway section is estimated at approximately 6 billion, of which 3 have already been allocated.

When fully operational, the new HS/HC Naples-Bari will bring numerous benefits to users of the route. In fact, Bari will be reachable from Naples in just 2 hours and vice versa. Those who leave from Rome will be able to reach Bari in 3 hours (compared to about 4 hours with the current Frecciargento) and Brindisi in just under 4 hours (compared to the current five hours).
