Alstom, Paris chooses General Electric

Shot of the scene in Paris. The French government broke the delay on Alstom, taking a stand in favor of the takeover offer by the American General Electric.

A decision which therefore goes against therival offer from Germany's Siemens and Japan's Mitsubishi. At the same time, the Minister of Economy Arnaud de Montebourg announced that the State will become the first shareholder of Alstom with a 20% stake.

GE had offered 12,35 billion not for the entire Alstom, but only for the energy division, which produces 70% of the group's total turnover.

Moreover, yesterday General Electric raised the bar by presenting an improved offer with concessions to the French government. GE has proposed to create three equal joint ventures (steam turbines, networks and renewables) with the French group Alstom and sell its signaling business.
