Almaviva: agreement at dawn at Mise, stop at 3000 layoffs

Averted the three thousand layoffs announced by Almaviva. The agreement was signed tonight at the Ministry of Economic Development: in addition to the withdrawal of layoffs the use of social safety nets for redundancies is envisaged (solidarity contracts for six months and extraordinary Cig for a further 12 months, with progressive reduction of solidarity) at the Rome, Palermo and Naples sites.

There will also be a monthly verification of the production and employment situation of the company call center at the institutional level. The objective of Almaviva Contact and the Government, according to the company, is "a shared challenge to bring work and productivity back to the offices in Rome, Naples and Palermo". In this matter "the Government's commitment to the agreement was decisive", added the company.

Satisfied the general secretary of Fistel Cisl Vitus Vitale: "after the strong mobilization of workers, an important agreement was reached which avoids the layoffs of three thousand workers in areas of the country where the employment crisis is very severe and the labor market would hardly have absorbed Almaviva's surpluses".

"The challenge that the union is throwing at the Government - continues Vitale - is the regulation of the call center sector and the fight against relocations and tenders at the lowest price in the permanent table at the Ministry of Economic Development already convened for 17 June".

The union also expresses its satisfaction with the social clause which guarantees continuity of employment and the rights acquired for call center workers in contract changes. The agreement on the clause "is the most advanced among those signed by the parties". The objective of the union, explains Giorgio Serao of the General Secretariat, "is to regulate the sector".
