Smog alarm: traffic blocked in Milan and Naples, but not in Rome

The smog alarm is once again worrying the main Italian cities. Milan and Naples have launched traffic blocking measures to bring the pollution values ​​back within the limits of the law, while in Rome, after the stop to traffic on Sunday, alternating number plates are not provided for Monday and Tuesday, because the parameters they are back under control. Among the other cities in which the smog levels have exceeded the threshold and the municipal administrations have taken measures on traffic, there are also Varese and Trieste. Here are the main measures launched by the Municipalities, followed by a practical suggestion for those who want to find out which environmental category their vehicle belongs to (Euro 1, Euro 2, Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6).

MILAN: PARTIAL BLOCK OF TRAFFIC FOR 10 DAYS

In Milan, the Municipality has decided that for ten days, starting from Monday 3 February, private citizens' cars with Euro 8.30 diesel engines will not be able to circulate from 18 to 7.30, while commercial vehicles will stop from 10 to 20. The maximum temperature allowed for heating homes also drops by one degree (from 19 to 14 degrees) and the maximum duration for which the systems can remain on is also reduced (from 12 hours to XNUMX hours).

NAPLES: 5 DAYS OF BLOCK OF TRAFFIC

In Naples, the traffic ban is in force from 6st to 9th February, from 30:12 to 30:14 and from 30:19 to 30:0. During these times, only electric vehicles, LPG or methane cars and cars with at least three people on board will be allowed to circulate, excluding the most polluting ones (Euro 1 and Euro XNUMX).

ROME: NO ALTERNATE PLATES MONDAY AND TUESDAY

After traffic was blocked on Sunday, alternating number plates on Monday and Tuesday are not foreseen in Rome, because the pollution values ​​have returned within the legal limits. 

VARESE: EXTENDED 12-HOUR BLOCKOUT

From Monday to Friday, between 7.30 and 19.30, Euro 3 diesel vehicles not equipped with particulate filters and Euro 0 motorcycles and two-stroke mopeds will not be able to circulate in the municipality of Varese. In addition there are Euro 0, 1 vehicles and 2 petrol and diesel. 

TRIESTE: CENTER CLOSED IN THE AFTERNOON

In Trieste the center is closed to traffic from 15pm to 20pm until Tuesday 2 February.
