Italy is confirmed as the country in Europe with the highest average prices for fuels, with the green one which is now traveling towards 2 euros per litre. According to the latest tariff increases, a full tank costs practically 20 euros more than a year ago.
The national average stands at 1,8 euro/litre to be precise, with peaks in Central Italy, where the regional excise duty is heavier, easily exceeding 1,9 euro per litre.. Thus the point of no return of 2 euros per liter of petrol is approaching. According to Codacons, fuel prices grew by 25,8% in 2011 alone, and the increases lead Italy to be the most expensive in all of Europe as regards petrol and diesel, which cost on average 12% more than the EU one, as recorded by Adoc.
Particularly Italians spend, for the same amount, 10% more than the French, 7% more than the Germans, and over 20% more than the Swiss and Spanish. An unsustainable situation, which not only affects motorists but also all consumer goods, including basic necessities, given that in Italy almost 40% of goods travel by road.
