Alitalia, Sabelli: "The first 9 months were good, but we will struggle to break even"

The flag carrier's business traffic is literally collapsing: from -10% in September to peaks of minus 30-50% between now and the end of the year. CEO Sabelli: "The crisis will make it very difficult to break even in 2011"

Alitalia, Sabelli: "The first 9 months were good, but we will struggle to break even"

"Break-even at the end of the year will be more difficult due to the crisis in the real economy and perhaps also due to a slightly emotional reaction to financial uncertainties, but we will still be very close to it”. Word of Rocco Sabelli, CEO of Alitalia.

The fall in business traffic, with -10% in September and peaks of 30-50% in October, November and Decemberslows down Alitalia's economic forecasts for the end of the year, and in perspective, for 2011 and 2012″, added the manager.

"We we brought in good position in the first nine months. Now we have this really heavy and difficult fourth quarter. There is certainly an impact of the crisis on the real economy, on the GDP which grows at very modest levels or does not even grow at all. This – concluded Sabelli – makes it more difficult to catch the break even at the end of the year, even if we don't do it we will still be very close, but above all it raises questions in 2012″.
