Alitalia: appeal rejected, the monopoly on the Milan-Rome ends, making room for EasyJet

Il The Council of State rejected Alitalia's appeal against the sentence of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court relating to the monopoly position on the Milan Linate-Rome route. The airline will therefore have to sell, as established by the Antitrust, part of the slots, thus opening up to competition from Easyjet on what, before the advent of high-speed trains, was the richest route in Italy.

Alitalia will still keep most of the slots, with an availability of 23 return flights per day against the 5 of the English company. But, almost certainly, it will find itself forced to face the downward pressure on prices due to the end of the monopoly.

The reasons for the sentence, anticipated taking into account the request of the Antitrust, will be communicated later.
