Alitalia: 690 redundancies ready for savings of 30 million

Backlash that of Alitalia. The Italian airline presented this morning to the trade unions (Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uiltrasporti) a labor cost containment project which provides for 690 redundancies, with recourse to layoffs, for a savings of 30 million euros. The job cuts would affect the maintenance area (90), flight attendants (300) and ground staff (300).

All the unions have expressed their opposition to Alitalia's management to further sacrifices and postponed any decision to a further meeting. No date has yet been set but there is talk of a possible meeting as early as next week.

"We ask the Government and Alitalia's top management to immediately report to the Chamber on the details of the industrial plan which provides for an additional 690 redundancies”, declared the deputy and group leader of the Democratic Party in the Transport Committee in the Chamber, Michael Meta. "The announced national plan for airports", continued Meta, "could contribute to reorganizing a system where until now we have witnessed the war between airports which has made cannon fodder for the workers".
