Alitalia loses 199 million in 2015, in profit in 2017

Alitalia concluded 2015 with a net loss of 199,1 million euros, a result which, although negative, bodes well for the future, given that in 2014 the red had amounted to 580 million euros. The company "confirms that it is on track to return to profit by 2017". According to the note published by the group, "the important result of 2015 relates to the first year of the three-year relaunch plan of the Italian company, which concluded with total revenues of 3.312,4 million".

Alitalia transported 2015 million passengers in 22,1, with an aircraft load factor of 76,2% and a punctuality index of 80,2%. The company's market share on flights to and from Italy in 2015 grew by four percentage points, reaching 30%. In April 2016, the customer approval rating reached 87%, the highest figure recorded since 2012, the year the surveys began.

“Today's results demonstrate that our company has become more effective at controlling costs and is on track to return to profit in 2017. All of our efforts are focused on achieving that goal. Few airlines have initiated such a radical change as the one undertaken by the new Alitalia. We are keeping our promise to create a top international airline,' said Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, president of Alitalia

“There is still a long way to go to achieve our long-term goals, but we have already achieved many significant milestones this year. The next phase of our strategy will see investments of €400 million in 2016 in fleet, aircraft cabin refurbishment, technology and infrastructure. However, our most important investment to date, the one that has borne the most fruit, has been the investment in our people. It is all the Alitalia personnel who are relaunching this brand and creating an important new reality in the European aviation market. For this I would like to thank each and every Alitalia employee for their hard work and dedication,” commented Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer of Alitalia.
