Alitalia, Patuanelli opens to nationalization

To solve the puzzle Alitalia the government no longer masks which path it intends to follow: that of nationalization. The Minister of Economic Development openly affirms it: “It may not be a bad event - Said Stefano Patuanelli to the Circo Massimo broadcast on Radio Capital – The problem is: will politics be able to identify managers capable of leading the company or just managers trumped by politics?”. A question to which, however, he himself fails to give an answer.

The way forward for the relaunch of the company, continued the minister, could be “to do a commissioner structure which has as its objective the renovation and then the re-marketing or nationalisation".

Alitalia rebus: stew, commissioner or Invitalia? These are the hypotheses around which, according to the latest rumors, the work of the executive revolves.

On Wednesday, in the Industry Committee in the Senate, Patuanelli had defined even a "return to Iri”, if it were necessary to “protect our industrial production and our businesses”.

The truth, however, is that the government has not yet decided what to do after the failed presentation of the purchase offer for the company, which will lose 600 million this year and has already burned the 900 million of the public loan granted by the Gentiloni government.

"We are evaluating various possibilities, the stew and the sale of separate assets tomorrow is not among them - Patuanelli said again - We have been trying to privatize Alitalia for ten years, but it has a dimension that the market is struggling to accept".
