The new industrial plan is still to be built, but the government has chosen the new top management of Alitalia: "Francesco Caio as president of new society e Fabio Lazzerini as managing director”. The Prime Minister announced it on Monday evening via Facebook, Giuseppe Conte, underlining that "the newly designated top management will be able to work immediately, with the advisors already identified by the Ministry of the Economy, on new business plan, which will then be notified to the European Commission".

Lazzerini, former Emirates, is the current head of business of Alitalia, while Caio has been chairman of the board of directors of Saipem since May 2018 and from 2014 to 2017 he was CEO and general manager of Poste Italiane.

As for the selection of the president and the chief executive officer, it was made "in the context of sharing this overall strategy, which also provides for a reform of national air transport", writes Conte again, specifying that "this decision allows a decisive acceleration of the project concerning the new company, as prefigured in the relaunch decree. We are in a hurry to proceed and relaunch a national carrier that can offer the maximum guarantees not only of effective and efficient business management, but also of enhancement of the entire national transport system, taking advantage of the opportunities that intermodality and the new global phase they can offer to our air transport market, which is the second largest in Europe”.
