Alitalia: Lufthansa in the field but only for a commercial agreement

The German company comes forward but its seems more like a disturbance in the negotiations between Fs, Delta and Atlantia for Alitalia: it will not enter the capital of the newco

Alitalia: Lufthansa in the field but only for a commercial agreement

Another twist in the story Alitalia. Lufthansa he wrote a letter to the Ministry of Economic Development and to the Railways, expressing his own willingness to have a “strong commercial understanding” with the company in extraordinary administration. It's about a disruptive operation, given that the offer comes just five days after the deadline for submitting binding offers and that the German giant does not intend to invest even one euro in Alitalia, does not want the State among the shareholders and demands a horse cure with 5-6 thousand redundancies.

Furthermore, if it wanted to enter into a commercial agreement with Lufthansa, Alitalia would have to pay 350 million fines to leave the Sky Team international consortium, with Delta and Air France, and enter Oneworld, the pole of the Germans.

At the moment, the only concrete hypothesis to save Alitalia is the creation of the consortium of four FS-Tesoro-Delta-Atlantia, which has been worked on for months. And "the deadline for the sale remains set for October 15", reiterated the Minister for Economic Development, Stefano Patuanelli.

Lately, Atlantia has set precise stakes: earlier he threatened to step back if the government withdraws them motorway concessions after the tragedy of the Morandi Bridge, then he demonstrated doubts about the role of Delta, asking for more money and more space on the routes to North America from the American company, which would have put about 100 million on the plate by reserving a "junior" role for Rome in the subdivision of the transatlantic routes. Finally, the Benettons are asking for a clearer industrial plan also on the front of the new investments.

In this scenario it is very unlikely that within a few days the newco will be created to take over Alitalia. According to the latest rumors, it will take another few weeks to define the industrial plan and appoint the new managing director.

In short, a new postponement is now almost inevitable, which will oblige the government to inject other public money in the company.
