Alitalia: Lufthansa makes an offer but wants restructuring

Lufthansa confirms that it has sent an offer for the purchase of Alitalia by yesterday's deadline, but reiterates that its interest is subject to the company's restructuring. According to the Radiocor agency, the top management of the German group presented a document to the extraordinary commissioners which illustrates their ideas for a “NewAlitalia” restructured and are open to further discussions on this basis.

From Frankfurt they recall how Lufthansa has always emphasized that the Italian market is very important and that consequently the German airline is interested in a restructured Alitalia. For this reason, it is explained, Lufthansa top management will take all the necessary measures to be prepared, should the opportunity arise.

But the Germans are not the only ones to move. Alitalia announces that three offers have been delivered at the associated notary office Atlante Cerasi in Rome. The Extraordinary Commissioners of Alitalia - reads the note - will proceed with the examination of the same in the next few days.

EasyJet he announced that he had presented “a revised expression of interest for a restructured Alitalia, together with a consortium, and consistent with EasyJet's current strategy in Italy. Considering the type of proceeding, the content of this expression of interest remains confidential. At this stage there is no certainty that a transaction will go ahead”. The third offer may have come from Wizzair, while the Air France and Klm hypothesis would seem to have faded.

And in the meantime, the reaction of the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, has also arrived, who “has given a mandate to the commissioners to continue and deepen the negotiations with all the bidders. To allow for such insights - reads a note - a new will be issued next week decree to postpone the deadline for the conclusion of the procedure and the deadline for the repayment of the bridging loan provided by the State to Alitalia". "The government will update all the political forces to verify their respective positions on the terms of the deepening of the negotiations", concludes the note.
