Alitalia: Lotito formalizes the offer, Atlantia pulls back

With Alitalia you never get bored. The game for the rescue of the former national airline is still open and, according to reports Republic, on the sidelines there would be a new player: Claudio Lotito.

The patron of the SS Lazio would have formalized and deposited a expression of interest to acquire shares in Alitalia, applying to join the newco together with FS and Delta Airlines. Lotito, he writes Republic, "will have to dialogue" with the two companies to demonstrate that they have what it takes to "manage the future Alitalia". Lotito confirmed the news to Ansa.

If Lotito "enters", Atlantia takes off. The company has in fact defined the rumors about its possible participation in the Alitalia operation as unfounded. “In relation to some indiscretions published today by the press, Atlantia reiterates that its position on the Alitalia affair has not changed with respect to the repeated public declarations of the CEO Giovanni Castellucci. Therefore, there is no basis for having news about alleged agreements, albeit preliminary, for a possible participation in the newco Alitalia”, explains the group in a note. The press release also recalls that "while being very attentive to the future of Alitalia in consideration of its importance for Aeroporti di Roma, currently Atlantia is already engaged in Italy on numerous and complex fronts".

Finally, it should be considered that the Alitalia theme was also addressed at the summit held today, June 12, at Palazzo Chigi, at the end of which the League reported that the expressions of interest received were evaluated, to define the issue soon ".
