The solution of the Alitalia case postponed until after elections. This was decided by the government in agreement with the commissioners who manage the former national airline. Too risky to face such a delicate match in the middle of the electoral campaign, which will almost certainly lead to thousands of redundancies.
At the moment, the most concrete offer remains that of Lufthansa, which puts 300 million euros on the plate but demands a strong slimming cure from the company, especially as regards the number of employees.
They also stay on the pitch Air France-Klm, the easy family of brands., Delta e Cerberus. The Franco-Belgian company and the British low-cost company (which has unloaded the US fund) are allies, while the American company seems willing to negotiate alone, at least in an initial phase. In reality, each of these suitors could come to terms with one of the others or suddenly exit the scene.
The government knows it, which is also why it has chosen to slow down. After all, at the moment there is no rush. On the contrary: the management of the commissioners makes it possible to face the negotiations for the sale with less urgency than in the past. THE Alitalia accountsIndeed, they are better than expected. After the +1% recorded last year, turnover is starting to close this financial year in positive territory as well.
As for the 900 million bridge loan granted by the government, it is still intact, even if the operation has aroused the suspicions of the European Commission, which wants to understand whether it was an irregular state aid. On this front, however, the Alitalia commissioners appear calm, because the loan was granted on market terms.
