Alitalia lost another 200 million in just 2 months

The airline is increasingly on the verge of collapse: after losing 491 million euros in 2016, in the first two months of the year it went into the red for 203 million, in addition to debt exceeding one billion.

The numbers once again nail Alitalia which would be in the red even if it completely filled the seats on its planes, as demonstrated by Professor Riccardo Gallo, one of the leading budget experts in Italy, precisely on FIRSTonline last May 4th.

In 2017, the Italian company lost 3 million euros a day.

After having recorded a deficit of 491 million in 2016, in the first two months of this year - which are traditionally the most difficult for airlines - it has accumulated losses, inherited from extraordinary administration, for another 203 million euros.

Indebtedness also remains very heavy, now exceeding one billion.

The three commissioners of Alitalia, after having received a liquidity injection of 600 million through the government bridge loan, are now engaged in the sale of the company's assets which will come alive in the autumn, but have decided to postpone the negotiations until September union on staff redundancies so as not to disturb the regularity of flights in the summer.

Barring miracles, Alitalia's future is marked and the sale in pieces or en bloc but at symbolic prices is around the corner, even if the approaching political elections will probably extend survival by a few months.
