Alitalia-FS with Delta at Fiumicino and easyJet at Malpensa?

Crucial days for the future of Alitalia - FS, which has taken the lead in the negotiations, plans to convince Delta and easyJet to enter the newco with two operations centers (one at Fiumicino and one at Malpensa) and strategic management in Rome - New contract but fewer redundancies for Alitalia employees

Alitalia-FS with Delta at Fiumicino and easyJet at Malpensa?

After waiver by Air France, among the travel companions of Alitalia e Fs, in the difficult attempt to rescue and relaunch the airline, could return to the field the easy family of brands.. They are the same Americans as Delta Airlines who are trying to convince the British low-cost airline to get back into the game. And this could be for Alitalia a crucial week.

If the alliance in Alitalia between Ferrovie dello Stato, Delta and easyJet were to take off - it is appropriate to say - the strategic plan provides for the division of capital shares and that of managerial roles. They imagine two operations centres (one a Fiumicino under the leadership of the Americans who would deal with long haul and North America and one a Malpensa managed by easyJet which would maintain the intercontinental routes and take care of the connectivity in Northern Italy, leaving the business routes to Linate) and a strategic direction in Rome.

From a stock perspective, Fs would not like to take more than 35-40% of the capital of the newco while Delta and easyJet are expected to get 20% each. Cassa Depositi e Prestiti could take on a role of financial partner.

The plan calls for a fleet with a hundred aircraft and fewer personnel (the redundancies should be reduced to 2-3 thousand) and with a new contract. Compared to that of Lufthansa, which he hypothesizes cuts of around 6 employees, is obviously preferred by the Government because it is more socially sustainable, but the road to the finish line is still difficult.

  1. Who knows when they will realize that keeping long-haul at Fiumicino will satisfy the vainglory of Romans and the comfort of employees (almost all Romans recommended) but will cause passengers from cities north of Florence to choose to fly via other hubs (Frankfurt, London and Paris primarily). In fact, 70% of short- and long-haul flights departing from Italy pass over the Alps. From Piedmont, Lombardy, Triveneto, Liguria and Emilia, the journey would be lengthened by passing through Rome. At this point, it's better to leave from the airport near the house and make a stopover in the aforementioned hubs, where the flight will be shorter and where the offer is much greater (and better)
