Alitalia, Di Maio: "Remain Italian, but no nationalization"

The Minister of Labor and Economic Development, Luigi Di Maio, intervened on the matter after the rumors of the newspaper La Stampa according to which the M5S-Lega government would be studying a plan to have 100% of the group: "It is not possible for a series of European standards, which I would like to re-discuss among other things”.

Alitalia, Di Maio: "Remain Italian, but no nationalization"

"Old-style nationalization is not feasible for a whole series of European standards, which I would like to re-discuss among other things". Thus the Minister of Labor and Economic Development, Luigi Di Maio, intervened on the Alitalia affair, after the rumors - at this point partially denied - by the newspaper La Stampa according to which the M5S-Lega government would be studying a plan to have the 100 % of the group and no longer 51% as emerged previously. Instead it seems that 51% are interested, given that Di Maio added that, if no nationalization is envisaged, "however, it is clear that for this government Alitalia must remain a carrier of the Italian state, linked to Italian production realities”.

Di Maio spoke on the issue in the Senate during theapproval of the Dignity Decree, the first provision-symbol of the new executive, which bears his signature. “But right now let's face the Alitalia issue with the deadlines that exist“, closed the Minister of Economic Development.

The indiscretion of La Stampa was that of an all-Italian solution, to safeguard jobs and have a national airline again. For this reason the two majority parties would have agreed on thehypothesis of creating a "newco" owned by public companies, starting in the first place with the State Railways and other state-owned transport companies, but the participation of Cassa depositi e prestiti and the Post Office is also at stake. An industrial partner, on the other hand, would not be a priority, in the Lega and Cinque Stelle plans it should only be identified later.
