Alitalia, Di Maio about-face: FS only technical partner

It only lasted a few hours the alleged solution to the Alitalia puzzle heralded by the deputy premier grillino Luigi Di Maio who, one week after the expiry of the sale procedure, he thought he had found the square forcing the State Railways to pass out to enter the capital of the airline alongside an international industrial partner to be found between easyJet and Delta.

Probably the sharp dissent of the Minister of Economy, Giovanni Tria, rejected the Di Maio plan in the bud.

Last evening Di Maio was in fact forced to back down and to admit that the State Railways will be able to become a technical partner of Alitalia but no more. A lot of coldness also from Delta and easyJet who want to see if Alitalia will start the restructuring before embarking on a deal with a very dubious outcome. But restructuring means, in this case, cutting jobs and salaries and the government does not want to clash with the unions a few months before the European elections.

It is no coincidence that some within the majority are beginning to suggest to the government to postpone the deadline to the end of the year for the airline sales process. But both the pilots' and flight attendants' unions and those of the ground staff are starting to get nervous and announce the mobilization of workers before deciding on harder forms of struggle
