"Mission accomplished. Now I'm ready to leave." The speaker is the CEO of Alitalia, Gabriele Del Torchio who, in a long interview with "Sole 24 Ore" made official what had been known for some time, namely his intention to leave the leadership of the airline to allow the new shareholders to Etihad to model the new leaders according to their philosophy and their orientations.
The replacement in Alitalia will take place in October and the incoming pairing is made up of Silvano Cassano as the new CEO and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo as the new president. Cassano is a trusted man of one of the Italian shareholders, the Benetton group, but also of Hogan, the big boss of Etihad with whom he worked in the past at Hertz.
Montezemolo, who has just left the board of Fiat and who is on friendly terms with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, is available to act as representative president of Alitalia on condition that he does not have operational powers that could lead to overlaps and conflicts with Ferrari of which he has been president for a long time.
