The honorary president of Alitalia, Roberto Colaninno resigned from the company's board of directors. A heavy exit for the company, especially in the midst of the chaos regarding the negotiations with the union on the one hand and the industrial plan on the other.

Alitalia: Colaninno's farewell

Colaninno had received the position of honorary chairman from the board of Alitalia in 2014, an acknowledgment for the key role he has always played within a company that he has never abandoned in times of difficulty and which, from a financial point of view, is cost the Immsi, the finance company chaired by him, around 100 million euros. Since 2008 the company has tried to participate in the rescue of Alitalia and until the end maintained a stake of 2,76% in Cai. The latter controls 100% of Midco SpA which, in turn, is a 51% shareholder of the former national airline. Officially, behind Colaninno's resignation is the desire to concentrate on Piaggio.

Alitalia: the industrial plan

Alitalia therefore loses a big shot in the least appropriate period. The top management of the company are currently engaged in the development of the industrial plan which will have to be presented on February 28th. According to rumors, the project would be to divide the company into two separate areas: the first active on the long range, the second on the short. The separation will make it possible to differentiate the rates offered to customers into three ranges, with the lowest being more or less similar to that of low cost.

No less important is the chapter concerning the green light for cost and personnel cuts in order to transform the management of the company, which is currently making heavy losses.

Alitalia: the meeting with the unions

In the meantime Alitalia will also have to contend with the unions. On Monday 20 February, a new confrontation between the Government and the Unions will be held. A key summit after the breakdown of the negotiations decided by the workers' organizations, on the renewal of the employment contract.

We recall that in January, the Executive had asked Alitalia for a detailed plan and approved by the shareholders in three weeks. The Ministries of Economic Development and Labor will also take part in the meeting.
