Alitalia: Air France always in the balance

Air France-Klm's participation in the 300 million capital increase decided by Alitalia still remains in doubt: if the French company does not take part, its share would be diluted to 11% - The industrial plan will be ready within three weeks : about a thousand redundancies.

Alitalia: Air France always in the balance

"I understand they haven't made a decision yet." This was stated by the CEO of Unicredit Federico Ghizzoni, commenting on the eventuality that Air France could participate in the capital increase of Alitalia: "What I understand - he explained - is that the representatives of Air France in the board voted to favor” of the 300 million capital increase, but “there is still three weeks time”.

The rumors published yesterday by the French media, and in particular by Les Echos, seriously questioned the participation in the increase of the French team, which would thus agree to dilute its share of Alitalia from 25% to 11%, losing the right of veto.

By the deadline set for the increase, according to reports from Il Messaggero, Alitalia should define its business plan, which will count on the contribution of important shareholders such as Poste and the Benetton family and will be coordinated by CEO Gabriele Del Torchio.

The expected redundancies should be fewer than the French company's own: we are talking about 1.000 cuts against the 4.000 indicated by Air France. In addition, around two thousand fixed-term contracts are on the move.
