Alfasigma, the new Italian pharmaceutical hub is born

The merger between Alfa Wasserman and Sigma-Tau is underway, the activities of which will flow into the newly established parent company Alfasigma - 75% of the shares of the new company are owned by the Golinelli family - The new group is positioned among the top five Italian operators in the sector.

In the past few days, the operation involving the contribution to the newly established company was completed group leader alpha sigma of the pharmaceutical activities and related subsidiaries by Alfa Wassermann and Sigma-Tau, two of the most important Italian pharmaceutical groups with a strong presence also at an international level. A press release from the company reports this.

alpha sigma it will have the task of governing the aggregation of the two transferred corporate structures, as well as determining their strategic and development guidelines. Alfasigma's shareholding sees the majority – with a share of 75% – held by fGolinelli family. Some members of the Cavazza family hold 20% and Intesa Sanpaolo, already a shareholder of Sigma-Tau, maintains the remaining 5% stake.

Marino Golinelli, founder of Alfa Wassermann, was appointed Honorary President of Alfasigma, while Stefano Golinelli assumed the position of President and Andrea Golinelli of Vice President, with responsibility for Innovation. The parent company will be led by the Chief Executive Officer Giampaolo Girotti, with direct responsibility also for the two operating companies and related subsidiaries.

The new Group is positioned among the top five operators in Italy in the pharmaceutical sector, both for prescription and self-medication products, with a turnover of over 900 million Euros. The industrial project envisages the further development of the business both in Italy and abroad, thanks to the synergies that will be created, the greater resources to be dedicated to R&D and production activities.

Internationally Alfasigma is already present in 18 countries, with about 2.800 employees, of which about 1.840 working in Italy and 960 in foreign branches. The operating offices in Italy are in Bologna, Milan, Pomezia, Alanno and Sermoneta.
