He also shared a concerning backstory Alfa Romeo sales proposals: “They knocked on my door asking me to sell Alfa Romeo. It also happened with a Chinese group that was intending to buy a French brand from the Stellantis group. The company that wanted to buy Alfa Romeo was not Chinese." Tavares has rejected all proposals, underlining that the brand is considered among the jewels of the Group and that it would never give it up.

Tavares then explained that the decision to not producing the Milano in Italy was dictated by costs. Building it in Italy would have entailed an "increase of approximately 10.000 euros on the final price" making it "impossible" to offer a model for less than 30.000 euros.
