Alcoa, aut aut Bentivogli (Fim Cisl): "New energy cost cuts, Glencore responds"

The meeting on the Alcoa dispute was held today, June 1st, at Palazzo Chigi with Undersecretary Claudio De Vincenti, Minister Carlo Calenda, Deputy Minister Teresa Bellanova and the Governor of Sardinia Francesco Pigliaru.

The Government has asked the EU Commission for a further modification of the profile of the energy card on all energy-intensive companies in the country. These availabilities allowed for a further downward revision of the prospectus which would make it coincide with the cost requests made by Glencore. On this basis, a new form on energy costs has already been sent to Glencore. The Government has informed us that it is committed to stabilizing the price over time and has added its willingness to construct a development contract to strengthen investment attractiveness.

Minister Calenda said he was willing to go personally to Glencore to get, in a short time, a definitive answer but also to offer, in the event of a negative answer, space for other possible investors.

The Fim Cisl recalled that after the meeting on 4 May, Glencore was committed to giving a definitive answer within 15 days. The answer never came. We asked: on the one hand, very tight deadlines for Glencore's response and the need for the Government to intervene with determination on the Alcoa summit to remove the unavailability of access to the data room and to visit the plant, necessary preconditions for the construction of other purchase proposals .

In the meantime, the coverage of social safety nets is increasingly reduced and the social framework that the Government must take into account is increasingly dramatic. For related industries, the Government has communicated its willingness to immediately seek active policy tools, including training and retraining opportunities with the aim of relocating to future investments and construction sites in local infrastructures.
