Albini launches Biofusion, traceable cotton

The Bergamo textile company Albini, thanks also to the strong partnerships established with local farmers, has given life to BIOFUSION, a project defined as "revolutionary, unique and exclusive" which combines the know-how of the Albini Group with the passion of cotton farmers, for an ethical and sustainable production.

“The first project for the exclusive cultivation of BIOFUSION organic cotton was born in the United States, thanks to a close collaboration with six American farmers located between Texas, New Mexico and California”, explains Daniele Arioldi, President of ICA, the Albini Group company dedicated to the selection of raw materials and yarns.

But how is this done new ecological and traceable cotton? Biofusion is made with a blend of American organic cottons – specifically Supima, the finest American Extra-Long Staple cotton and Upland, a very high quality long staple cotton – and is scientifically traceable with a highly innovative method developed by Oritain, world leader in forensic science.

The tracing process begins with the collection of cotton samples from the cultivation field: these are analyzed by Oritain to test the chemical properties of the fibre. By means of statistical models this information comes transformed into a unique fingerprint for that cotton and for the environment it comes from. The product can thus be checked at any stage of the production chain to verify that it is compatible with its original fingerprint: only an exact match proves that the product is authentic.

From today therefore, the final product can be traced from the cultivation field to the point of sale: a guarantee not only of the origin, but also of the quality and its ethical and sustainable production.

“Our cotton farms are overseen on site by Jeff Elder (former CEO of Oritain North America and former Vice President of JG Boswell Company) as Head of Albini Group's Cotton Hub in the United States,” he says Fabio Tamburini, CEO of Albini Group. “The goal is to ensure compliance with ethical and quality standards and to perfect direct control over the entire production chain”.

Albini Group's BIOFUSION fabrics are designed for the world of clothing at 360° e for the creation of total looks: from fabrics for shirts to those for the creation of suits, jackets and trousers. The yarns used to make these fabrics are certified Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
