Nightmare day for Italian travelers who will have to take a plane on Friday 24 September. The trade unions in the aviation sector have in fact called a strike that will involve all employees, except those who report to ENAV.
THE REASONS FOR THE STRIKE
According to Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uil transport, the transport sector "is still paying the bill for the pandemic, so a series of interventions aimed at guaranteeing its industrial stability cannot be postponed", not to mention the stalled negotiations on Ita, the company airline which from 15 October will take the place of Alitalia. At the center of the debate is also the Air Italy case "with 1.450 workers on layoffs expiring on 31 December next", underline the trade associations.
STRIKE 24 SEPTEMBER: TIMETABLES AND FLIGHTS AT RISK
The strike by air transport workers will last 24 hours, from midnight to 23.59pm on 24 September. Alitalia flights will be at risk throughout the day, while Easyjet workers will participate in the protest from 13 to 17 and those of Volotea from 10 to 12.
ALITALIA CANCEL 60% OF FLIGHTS
"Following the strikes in the air transport sector proclaimed by some trade unions for the entire day of Friday 24 September 2021, Alitalia was forced to cancel a series of flights, both domestic and international, scheduled for that day", reads on the site of the former national airline. In detail, they are 161 canceled flights on Friday, to which more are added 8 flights cancelled on Thursday 23 September and 3 on Saturday 25.
In order to limit passenger inconvenience, the company has activated an extraordinary plan with more capacious aircraft, with the aim of rebooking travelers involved in cancellations.
