The Italian Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers (Aiba) calls for greater simplification of insurance contracts. In his report to the annual meeting, held in Rome, the chairman Carlo Marietti underlined the need for interventions in favor of a pre-contractual and contractual regulation based on the conciseness and effectiveness of communication with the customer.
Referring to the debate that has begun on the draft regulation suggested by the Supervisory Authority, the President of Aiba also supported the need for a "proportionality" of the rules with respect to a very differentiated insurance clientele: "We can peacefully agree - he affirmed Marietti – that the needs for simplification of communication and procedures for a consumer of a mass insurance guarantee are very different from the correlated needs of corporate customers”. More generally, Marietti supported "the opportunity for a less formal regulation but based on the substantial achievement of the declared objectives".
In 2013 total insurance premiums in Italy grew by 11,9% to 118,786 billion euro (Ivass data) only thanks to the significant recovery in life classes (+22,1%). In the non-life sector, on the other hand, the reduction in MV TPL premiums and a generalized cooling of overall production led to a contraction which was reflected in the turnover of insurance brokerage. “We have calculated the premiums managed by national brokers at 18 billion – said Marietti; of these, 14 billion are concentrated in the non-life sector with a presence on the market equal to 42% of total non-life collection".
At the end of 2013, the number of insurance brokerage companies registered in section B of the Single Register of Intermediaries (RUI) increased: 1.462 compared to 1.377 in 2012, with a growth of 6,2%. There were 31 natural persons registered as at 2013 December 3.819, with an increase of 4,2% over the previous year. In total, there are 5.281 persons authorized to practice the profession of broker (+4,8% compared to 2012). With regards to the number of active operators, the data of the Fondo di Garanzia dei Mediatori indicate 1.634 active brokers, of which 1.145 companies and 489 sole proprietorships. 1.129 companies are registered in AIBA, including companies and sole proprietorships, which represent 70% of the category and 80% of the market's turnover.
The assembly of Bipar, the European federation of insurance intermediaries, was also held in Rome, reconfirming the Italian Alessandro De Besi as president for the second time.
