Agri-food: at the start of "TO Taste 2019", Piedmont meets the USA

The two days of "TO Taste 2019″ are starting, an event organized as part of the "True Italian Taste" project at the Turin Congress Center by Assocamerestero, the Association of Unioncamere and Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad, and by Chamber of Commerce of Turin.

During the initiative, which will take place on 25 and 26 March, 550 B2B meetings will be held between more than 200 Piedmont companies operating in the food & beverage.

The TO Taste 2019 will see the presence of many companies in the wine and alcoholic beverages sector (50%) followed by those in the confectionery sector (14%), rice and pasta (9%), other packaged food (9%) and of dairy products (7%). Among the most present provinces is that of Cuneo with 92 companies, Turin with 43 and Asti with 31. The provinces of Alessandria and Vercelli also follow with a good presence.

“Among these companies – Assocamerestero explains in a note – over 94% have fewer than 50 employees and 64% see exports accounting for at least over 10% of their turnover. Among the geographical areas of greatest interest is Europe, followed by North America and Asia. In fourth and fifth position respectively the Middle East and Oceania”.

During the event, Italian Sounding will also be discussed, a phenomenon that refers to the imitation of a product/name/brand through a reference to the vaunted Italian spirit. The association of the Chambers of Commerce in fact recalls that Italian Sounding annually fuels a turnover of 100 billion euros a year.

Remaining on exports, it is also necessary to consider the excellent results achieved by the agri-food sector in Piedmont, where exports in 2018 reached 6 billion euros, with an increase of 8,4% compared to the previous year. The first destination market is Europe, but there is a visible growth in exports to North America - in particular the United States, which has now become the main non-EU market for agri-food (7,8%; +7,3 .2017% compared to XNUMX).

"Assocamerestero has been working with the Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad for three years thanks to the "True Italian Taste" project to increase awareness among foreign consumers of 100% made in Italy products, - says Gian Domenico Auricchio, President of Assocamerestero – and in this way we want to encourage conscious purchasing choices with respect to the widespread phenomenon of Italian sounding. In Piedmont we have already carried out an important incoming action last year, with a North American delegation of top food experts to discover the Italian agro-food excellence; and today we return to the area to strengthen the internationalization of companies, with 20 buyers operating in the retail, wholesale, e-commerce and ho.re.ca. identified by the CCIE also on the basis of the great interest that our products meet in North America.”
