Revenue Agency: "Beware of new scam emails"

Several citizens have received messages that speak of a debt with the financial department, threatening a withdrawal from a current account in the event of non-payment – The taxman warns: "Do not take requests into account, do not open the attachments and trash the email"

New attempts to defraud taxpayers. The Revenue Agency reports that in recent days several citizens have received phishing emails in their mailbox apparently sent from some tax offices and containing references to real telephone numbers.

The letters indicate a debt with the finance department for the fourth quarter of 2016 and it is announced that, in the event of failure to pay off the debt, the withdrawal will be made to the current account. Files are also attached to emails.

"The Revenue Agency, in specifying that these are not official communications and that they are totally extraneous to them - reads the note - invites you not to take into account the requests, not to open the attachments and to trash the email received" .

It is not the first time that this scam attempt has been reported: a very similar email had already been circulated in June 2016.
