Tough stance by Cisl metalworkers against Aferpi's delays in relaunching the former Lucchini steel mill in Pionbino - Union letter to Prime Minister Gentiloni

Aferpi, Fim-Cisl: "Intolerable delays in Piombino"

"The delays accumulated in recent years on the non-compliance with the agreements and their implementation on time are driving the workers to exasperation". The national coordinator of Fim Cisl Siderurgia, Raffaele Apetino, said this in a note released by the Fim Cisl union, commenting on the protest of the Aferpi workers, ex-Lucchini.

"After the demonstrations and strikes - added Apetin -, the last one on 24 March, the protest of the Aferpi workers, ex-Lucchini, will continue with the occupation of the City Council to the bitter end, even at night, until 19 April, date of convocation at the Ministry of Economic Development of the meeting between the Government, the union and the top management of Aferpi-Cevital".

“By that date we expect the Government to definitively assume responsibility so that there is a clear answer on the timing of the implementation of the Industrial Plan and the program agreement signed more than two years ago on 30 June 2015. For this reason yesterday RSU and the territorial secretaries of Fim, Fiom, Uilm have sent a letter to Prime Minister Gentiloni, asking him to personally take charge of the dispute".

“The Algerian entrepreneur Issad Rebrab – finally reads the note released by Fim Cisl – cannot continue to postpone the implementation of the Piombino industrial plan, without giving answers, it is no longer tolerable for the workers, their families and the territory. The entire city has rallied around the workers in struggle, the steel mill is too important a resource for the economy and the future of the area. Piombino must go back to casting steel as soon as possible”.
