Airports, in 2011 passengers +6,4%

Italian airports closed 2011 with a growth in passenger traffic of 6,4%, a figure which is worth more than 9 million people more than in 2010. Overall, more than 148 million passengers transited through airports Italians, while the movements were over one and a half million (+0,9% compared to 2010). The numbers were published today by Assaeroporti.

As for the major airports, there was a growth of 3,6% for the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome, while Milan Malpensa achieved +1,8%. In the context of intercontinental airports, the increase in passengers from the Venice airport should be underlined which, with a traffic of 8.584.651 passengers, actually recorded a growth of 25,0%. The closure of the nearby Treviso airport in the second half of 2011 contributed to this result.

The other airports which handle between 5 and 10 million passengers a year have also proved to be particularly dynamic, including Bergamo Orio al Serio (+9,7%) and Milan Linate (+9,2%).

Assaeroporti points out that despite the overall satisfactory passenger traffic result recorded for the 37 Italian airports in 2011, some endogenous factors, such as the economic crisis and the instability of North African countries have led to a slowdown in traffic growth, especially in during the last 3 months of the year.
