ADR: Fiumicino becomes the airport of culture

Fiumicino becomes the airport of culture, thanks to the initiatives proposed by Aeroporti di Roma, the Atlantia group company that manages and develops the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, with the aim of entertaining the travelers who depart and arrive at the capital's main hub every year.

Traveling is not just moving from one place to another. The word travel has always been synonymous with experience, culture, elevation of one's self. From a mere tool, over the centuries it has been transformed into a concept, to the point of becoming one of the topos of modern literature.

Centuries later, little has changed. Traveling to study, traveling to work, to learn, to increase awareness of what one is through the observation and practice of the different. There are many meanings that are attributed to the concept of travel and none of them will ever be all-encompassing enough to fully envelop the definition that individuals would use on the basis of their own experience.

Compared to the past, however, the ways in which one goes from one place to another in the country or in the world have changed. If everyone described the "concept" in a different way, the vast majority of us would not exist to indicate airports as the symbolic places of everything we have just talked about. The airport is where the journey begins, but also the one in which it ends, and for this very reason it has itself become an integral part of the individual experience.

Starting from these bases, Aeroporti di Roma has decided to go further, transforming the capital's first airport into a place where travelers can come into direct contact with Roman and national culture and artistic heritage.

Starting from 24 October and until 14 December, passengers passing through Fiumicino will be able to breathe the magic of great capitals such as Rome and New York, the relationship between music and silent cinema, the uniqueness of the Italian musical tradition thanks to the“Take it You Fly” initiative, organized in collaboration with the Auditorium della Conciliazione.

At the center of attention will be the Italian Cinema Orchestra, which will perform at the departure areas of Terminal 1 – Pier B, with a series of four concerts lasting approximately one hour.

Each exhibition will be dedicated to the soundtracks of major national and international films. Travelers will therefore have the opportunity to attend the shows by observing the images of the films that will be broadcast on HD screens in the various Terminals.

The first appointment will begin on 24 October at 18.00 and will be dedicated to four great composers whose soundtracks have gained international fame: Bacalov, Morricone, Piovani and Rota. The music will be performed by the masters Gilda Buttà and Luca Pincini who will perform on piano and cello.

"Ciak si vola" is part of the cultural entertainment and promotion of the area initiatives launched by ADR to allow travelers from the capital's airports to pleasantly spend the time available before the trip and follows the initiative created for the Film Festival.

Aeroporti di Roma, in collaboration with the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, was a partner of the Rome Film Fest, collaborating in welcoming actors and VIPs who took part in the Capitoline film event.

From the beginning of the event to its conclusion, two different initiatives were activated in the arrivals area of the airport. The first (set up in the baggage reclaim area of Terminal 3) consisted of a red carpet that welcomed passengers who landed in Rome, making them become "stars for a shot", thanks to a dedicated "photo point", where travelers had the possibility of taking souvenir photos to bring back home.

Again, the aim was to improve the quality of the time the passenger spends at the airport. One way to try to confirm the excellent results obtained in the surveys of the Airport Council International (ACI), the international association that measures the quality perceived by passengers, which in the second quarter of 2016 assigned to Leonardo da Vinci the second place among European hubs with over 40 million passengers.

Among the various hobs created by ADR over the last few years, the series of concerts made on the model of the “Street Pianos” of the St. Pancreas station in London and inaugurated with the performance of Maestro Pappano on 16 December 2015, accompanied by the First Violin Carlo Maria Parazzoli, as part of the "Santa Cecilia in Flight" initiative.

For the occasion, near the embarkations located in Terminals 1 and 3, four grand pianos have been positioned which are still available to all travelers who have the opportunity to play them freely by staging small musical performances.

Of great charm the “Meet the Flight” project which ADR has created in order to expand the cultural and entertainment offer available to passengers, allowing them to meet personalities and celebrities from the world of entertainment (such as Neri Marcorè and Antonio Giuliani), music, culture and sport thanks to the interviews carried out by the editorialist Enrico Cisnetto.

Not to be forgotten either the "Navigate the Territory" initiative, created together with the Benetton Studi Ricerche Foundation, in which travelers had the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Park of the Imperial Ports of Claudius and Trajan, the only Roman port that has survived intact to our time.

Dedicated shuttles, departing from the Fiumicino air terminal at Terminal 3, have given the curious and enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the excellence that only these places can give to the coast that expands just a few minutes from the Leonardo da Vinci.

Perfect occasions for start your cultural journey directly at the airport.
