Farewell to Raffaella Carrà, icon of popular TV

Raffaella Carrà died at the age of 78, the singer and TV presenter who more than any other has interpreted the national and popular spirit in recent decades. This was announced by the director Sergio Japino, her life partner, joining the pain of the grandchildren Federica and Matteo, Barbara, Paola and Claudia Boncompagni, lifelong friends and closest collaborators. “Raffaella has left us. She went to a better world, where his humanity, his unmistakable laugh and his extraordinary talent will shine forever”, reads the note released by the director.

Raffaella Carrà passed away at 16.20 pm on Monday 5 July, after an illness that “for some time had attacked her body, so tiny yet so full of overflowing energy. An unstoppable force of hers, which has imposed her at the top of the world star system, an iron will that has never abandoned her until the last moment, ensuring that nothing transpires of her deep suffering. Yet another gesture of love towards his audience and towards those who shared her affection, so that her personal ordeal would not disturb the bright memory of her,” Japino explained.

She was born in Bologna on June 18, 1943 and had already become very famous in the 60s as a singer, presenter, dancer, actress, a point of reference for the LGBTQ+ community. Songs such as "Tuca Tuca", "A far l'amore begins tu", "Tanti Auguri" and "Rumore" are still danced and sung by young and very young people today. An all-round artist who managed to stay for decades at the top of the star system both in Italy and abroad, being crowned by all as "the queen of Italian television".

In his final arrangements, Carrà asked for a simple coffin of rough wood and an urn to hold his ashes. “In the saddest hour, always unique and inimitable, like his overwhelming laughter. And that's how we all want to remember it. Hi Raffaella”, concludes Japino.
