Farewell to Paolo Rossi, the hero of Mundial 82

Who does not remember Pablito's hat-trick against Brazil which paved the way for Italy to win the 1982 World Cup? Unfortunately an incurable disease took him away at only 64 years old

Farewell to Paolo Rossi, the hero of Mundial 82

After Maradona, Italy also says goodbye to Paolo Rossi, who passed away at the age of 64 due to an incurable disease. The news was spread by her wife, Federica Cappelletti, who posted a photo with her husband on Instagram accompanied by a comment of just two words: "Forever".

Italian bomber par excellence, Rossi goes down in history as the hero of the 1982 World Cup in Spain, won by Bearzot's Italy thanks to his goals (six in all, which also gave him the title of top scorer). Unforgettable, in particular, Pablito's hat-trick against Brazil of the sacred monsters Zico, Falcao and Socrates. That same year, Rossi also won the Golden Ball.

With that average Italian name, that look of an ordinary boy, Rossi became the symbol of a national team in which no one believed at first, but which then, thanks to his ability to suffer, succeeded in the great enterprise. The facts proved the coach, Enzo Bearzot, right, who courageously chose to leave Roberto Pruzzo at home, despite the many goals scored by the Roma forward, preferring Rossi himself.

In the eighties, under the guidance of Trapattoni, Pablito also won a lot with the Juventus shirt, bringing home two league titles, an Italian Cup, a Cup Winners' Cup, a Champions' Cup and a European Super Cup.

After farewell to football, Rossi became sports commentator, working for both Sky and Rai. A job always carried out with grace, without taking oneself too seriously, with simplicity and great serenity.
