Ettore Bernabei died at the age of 95. Born in Florence on May 16, 1921 Bernabei was a practicing Catholic, father of 8 children, he had dedicated his life to journalism, his first and greatest passion. Director of Il Popolo (organ of the DC) in 1956, general director of Rai from 1961 to 1974, he was then head of Italstat and most recently a TV producer with Lux Vide, he was very close to the Vatican. Among his books "The trusted man".

Bernabei had graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Florence. He began his journalistic activity in 1946. From 1951 to 1956 he was director of the "Giornale del Mattino", a Florentine newspaper of Christian inspiration. Close to the then secretary of the DC Amintore Fanfani, in 1956 he was called to Rome to direct Il Popolo, the press organ of the Christian Democrats. From 1961 to 1974 he was the great director general of RAI, then the only television and radio station in Italy, to which he assigned the mission of educating the nation. In those years RAI produced and broadcast programs such as Tv7 and screenplays taken from great literary works such as the Odyssey, the novels of Tolstoy, Alessandro Manzoni, Archibald Cronin. TV series were made such as: The Acts of the Apostles directed by Roberto Rossellini; the Moses; Jesus of Nazareth directed by Franco Zeffirelli.
