Farewell to David Sassoli, the President of the European Parliament

David Sassoli, 66 years old, president of the European Parliament and face well known to Italians not only for the high institutional office he held but also for having been one of the presenters of Tg1 in the past, he passed away in the last few hours due to complications deriving from a dysfunction of the immune system. He was hospitalized at the Aviano Oncological Center.

Sassoli had canceled all institutional commitments from September to November due to a "bad" pneumonia caused by the legionella bacterium.

Born in Florence on May 30, 1956, as a boy he had attended Agesci, the association of Catholic scouts which he had joined in the footsteps of his father, who was a parishioner of Don Milani. Roman by adoption, Sassoli embarked on the path of journalism as a young man, working at the agency asca and then al Preferred Date until landing in Rai where it had become presenter and deputy director of Tg1.

In 2009 he decided to devote himself topolitical activity until becoming one of the highest European institutional offices. Unanimous the condolences of the political and journalistic world for a person, who died prematurely, who in addition to the undoubted professional qualities had a human trait and a strong passion that clearly distinguished him. We will always remember him with his smile.
