The second edition of the contest launched by Acea concluded with the award ceremony, with which the best "sustainable" projects were selected, completed or under construction, in the territories in which the multi-utility operates, in the areas of energy transitionof the protection of socio-sustainable development and Innovation, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.  

The initiative, which took place in Tuscany, in the territory of one of the Group companies, Acquedotto del Fiora, under the patronage of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, obtained the certification of low environmental impact initiative from Ecoevents–Legambiente. Safe and Marevivo collaborated in the contest and in the evaluation of the projects.

“Sustainability and environmental protection are two important factors at the basis of our business activities. The objective of the contest, which has reached its second edition this year - declared the president of the Acea Group, Michaela Castelli - is to enhance the most sustainable projects and initiatives, carried out by the companies of the Group, with positive and tangible benefits in the territories in which the company operates”. 

“All the projects awarded today – concluded the CEO Giuseppe Gola – have been able to combine objectives of industrial growth and protection of the territory and the environment, confirming the Group's willingness, even more so in this particular historical period, to contribute with important investments in the ecological transition process of our country and in the protection of its resources". 

All awards: energy transition, socio-sustainable development and innovation

For the “Innovation and start-up” category, the prize was awarded to Gori, the Group company that manages the water service in Campania, with the energieperilsarno.it project, a website created to inform the area about the rehabilitation and monitoring works of the Sarno catchment area.

The prize for the "Energy Transition" went to Acea Innovation, for the “Renewable Energy Communities” project, created with the aim of increasing energy independence. Renewable energy communities, in fact, by enhancing the use of renewable energies, avoid the emission of about 60 thousand tons of CO2 per year and guarantee economic savings in consumption.

Among the proposals for "Protection and Social Development", that of theIndustrial area of ​​the Engineering and Services Group with "Volatolomics from exhaled", a research and experimentation work, in collaboration with the Tor Vergata University Hospital and with the Sagen association, aimed at defining a breath analysis methodology that has proven to provide useful information for the prevention of some types of tumors.

The Popular Jury Award went to Umbria Waters with "Umbria resiliente", a project for the construction of a pipeline that will feed a new purifier near the Petrignano power plant, in the province of Perugia. A "zero consumption" plant, thanks to a photovoltaic plant and two turbines that will produce energy by exploiting the altitude difference between the derivation and the plant.

Il Marevivo Special Award was assigned to Acea spa with the "UP2YOU experimentation for calculating CO2 emissions savings" project, an app that allows you to calculate the carbon footprint savings (carbon footprint due to greenhouse gas emissions) thanks to the reduction in the use of bottles of plastic.

Il Safe Special Awardlastly, to Acea Energia for "Together with us, with your energy!", a training program based on new methodologies and accurate assessment tools that make it possible to enhance the potential and aptitudes of candidates. 

Among the other projects in the competition, the "Agile Academy", the first Tuscan academy, created by Acquedotto del Fiora to develop new professional excellence to be included in the territorial productive fabric.
