In April 2013, the EU market for new cars grew for the first time since September 2011 (+1,7% compared to April 2012). The fact that the EU was able to count on an average of two more days of work compared to the same month last year weighs on the figure, reads the Acea press release. A total of 1.038.343 new cars were registered in the EU, while in the first quarter of the year new registrations amounted to 4.026.946 units, or 7,1% less than in the same period a year ago.

Looking at the different markets, Germany (+3,8%), Spain (+10,8%) and the United Kingdom (+14,8%) expanded, while France (-5,3%) and Italy ( -10,8%) recorded a hit. From January to April, the United Kingdom remained the only major market to register growth (+8,9%). On the other hand, the market was down in Spain (-6,7%), Germany (-8,5%), France (-12,3%) and Italy (-12,3%).
