Acea, two innovations in water and waste at Maker Faire Rome

Acea will participate as a sponsor in Maker Faire Rome–The European Edition, the European fair dedicated to innovation and new technology trends, now in its seventh edition.

In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will take place entirely digitally. During the four days of the fair, Acea will present two innovative industry 4.0 solutions applied to its industrial sectors, in particular to water and the environment.

As for the water sector, Acea will present Waidy, an app that makes water noses and houses “smart”. Waidy, thanks to the geolocation of around 6.000 drinking water supply points located in the areas served by the group, allows you to view the closest ones in real time and learn about their history. Furthermore, through a system called smart water grid, the app makes it possible to detect any malfunctioning of the fountains, making it possible to report faults and request the qualitative and quantitative parameters of the water supplied (thanks to a direct link to the MyAcea portal) . The app also allows you to keep track of your daily water consumption and to become part of an interactive communication channel between users.

Speaking instead of the circular economy sector, at the Maker Faire Rome Acea will present the new release of Acea SmartComp, created by the company in collaboration with Enea and the University of Tuscia, which has as its objective the widespread and participatory treatment of "zero kilometer" organic waste produced by large users such as canteens, hospitals, shopping centres, airports, stations. “With SmartComp it is possible to transform wet waste into compost directly on site through an aerobic process which produces fertilizer ready for use in about 90 days. At the same time, the project guarantees a lower production of waste and substantial savings on management costs”, underlines Acea in a note.

As he states the president of Acea, Michaela Castelli, these are “two projects designed precisely to combine innovation and sustainability, circular economy and resilience of the territories. As far as SmartComp is concerned, to date the machines have produced, taking into account the period of shutdown due to the health emergency, 500 kg of compost with a saving of 0,3 tons of CO2 not emitted. ACEA's goal is to install 150 SmartComps by 2024 to widely implement a system with a capacity of 15 tonnes per year, equal to that of a localized plant that manages organic waste produced by a city of 150 inhabitants. The benefits in terms of CO2 not emitted will be approximately 2.160 tonnes, with a reduction, as regards road transport, of approximately 3.000 fewer trucks on the roads. This is equivalent to approximately 3,6 million km not traveled by heavy vehicles"

“With reference to Waidy, to date the QR codes necessary for the use of the App have been installed on over 700 noses in the capital. Acea aims to install them on all 3000 noses in Rome by the first quarter of 2021. To date, 300 noses have been repaired thanks to Waidy”, concluded Castelli.
