Acea launches a new project on the Rome electricity grid

Security and speed of communication. These are the main objectives of the new branded project Acea. The Roman multi-utility, through Areti - a Group company that deals with the distribution of electricity in Rome - has launched the "Smart Grid" initiative which, as part of the broader development plan of the power grid of the capital, will allow for a more innovative and, at the same time, more efficient infrastructure.

In particular, the implementation phase of the project was entrusted, through a tender, to two important technological partners. It's about Syrtis, an innovation hub in the field of network infrastructure development and systems development and integration, and of Nokia, a company dedicated to communication solutions and technologies.

This initiative intends to enhance the remote control of the primary and secondary substations, so as to obtain greater automation of the same, with a consequent improvement also in the levels of service. Furthermore, the new network, of the "carrier grade" type with three hierarchical levels, will guarantee greater security, allowing for future evolutions of 5G, as well as greater communication speed between the control room and the electrical network which will allow for a better flow of information, such as the telemetry of the primary and secondary substation devices, the measurement data of the meters or the images of the surveillance cameras.

Also, future implementations in optics smart city "They will make it possible to install sensors, distributed throughout the territory, through which important information on traffic or pollution can be collected", reads a note from the group.
