Steel, EU alarm over Chinese dumping

Several European economy ministers have raised an alarm against a important and imminent risk of collapse of the European steel sector in the face of dumping by China. In a joint letter addressed to the European Commission and the Council, the German ministers Sigmar Gabriel, the French Emmanuel Macron, the Italian Federica Guidi, the Polish Mateusz Morawiecki, the British Sajid Javid, the Belgian Kris Peeters and the Luxembourgian Etienne Schneider call on the EU to "use all means available” and “act forcefully to respond to this new challenge”.

Among these measures, the ministers cite "trade defense tools in the framework of world trade (WTO)" and other tools to "modernize the European steel industry" such as support for innovation. European steel producers, under pressure, they accuse China of selling at a loss.
