Acciaierie d'Italia (formerly Ilva)-unions: today a summit on layoffs, but the letters have already left

Today at Ministry of Labour a new meeting will be held in Acciaierie d'Italia (formerly Ilva) and the trade unions on the extraordinary redundancy fund requested by the company for 2022. The summit is decisive, being the last possible day to reach an agreement. However, the company did not want to wait and has already sent letters to 3 employees which they announce the provision for a period of one year.

For this, always for today, the Uilm announced a garrison in front of the management in Taranto from 10 to 14. The union announced that the mobilization "will involve the workers of Acciaierie d'Italia, Ilva in extraordinary administration, of the contract and related industries".

Acciaierie d'Italia (formerly Ilva)-trade unions: lack of agreement

Acciaierie d'Italia is asking for the extraordinary fund for the restructuring and the new industrial plan for 3 employees, 2.500 of which in Taranto alone. In a previous meeting at the ministry, the company had reduced the total number to 2.800, but the unions do not believe that this reduction is sufficient to sign the agreement.

The Rsu Uilm

“We are increasingly convinced that we are clearly opposing – write the Unitary Union Representatives (Rsu) Uilm – a phantom investment plan made up of promises, punctually disregarded, by a company that carries the premonition of thousands of structural redundancies linked to the 'non-existent safety measures for the systems and the failure to protect the surrounding environment'.

The Fim Cisl

According to Roberto Benaglia and Valerio D'Alò, of the national secretariat of the Fim Cisl, today's “is a very important and decisive meeting. We ask Acciaierie d'Italia - continues the joint note - to present themselves with new availabilities that can lead to the construction of a trade union agreement with concrete and useful objectives for workers in the iron and steel industry. To an increase in production must match one decrease in the number of layoffs and a lower sacrifice of income for them. We ask Minister Orlando for the maximum political commitment to achieve this result which will allow us to protect jobs and give a boost to the relaunch of each production site".

Without a trade union agreement, the company will still be able to proceed with layoffs, keeping both hands free. "To those who still ask for the withdrawal of the redundancy fund today, we observe that Taranto today works at 50% of its production and employment potential - conclude the Fim Cisl trade unionists - 2022 must be a year of transition capable of bringing, on the basis of the future industrial plan , upon confirmation of all employment guarantees for all employees of Acciaierie and for those in Ilva AS. For the Fim the agreement is possible only if it establishes that there are no structural redundancies. If all the unions work in the same direction tomorrow we will be able to achieve a good result”.
