HAPPENED TODAY – On 13 September 1940 Enzo Ferrari founded the Cavallino

Rarely can an anniversary be celebrated with such enthusiasm: just a few days from triumph of Monza, with the definitive consecration of the young talent of Charles Leclerc, 21 years old from Montecarlo, Ferrari turns 79 today. The house of the Prancing Horse was in fact founded on 13 September 1940 by the engineer Enzo Ferrari in Maranello, in the province of Modena, where it still has its headquarters: even if the first official name of the car manufacturer was Auto Avio Costruzioni (until 1944 the name Ferrari was not used due to contractual clauses linking Ferrari to Alfa Romeo) and even if in reality the Scuderia Ferrari, the one that already raced in Formula One, was already founded in 1929 in Modena.

Manufacturer of sports cars that are a real status symbol all over the world (as well as an icon of Made in Italy manufacturing), Ferrari is known above all for being the most titled car manufacturer in the world championship of Formula One, where he won fifteen drivers' and sixteen constructors' titlesas well as one of the most successful in competitions in the Sport, Prototype, Sport Prototype and Gran Turismo categories, such as the Sport Prototype world championship, with twelve constructor titles obtained and the FIA Endurance world championship, where it holds five GT constructor titles and three driver titles gt.

The Maranello company has also established itself several times in classic endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona and in road races such as the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia and the Carrera Panamericana.

In 2013 and 2014 the brand was recognized as the most influential in the world and in 2015 it was positioned at 295th in the ranking of “The most valuable brands of 2015” of the Brand Finance website, with a value of 4,8 billion of dollars. Today, after the Marchionne management which sanctioned - together with FCA - the relaunch and listing on the Stock Exchange, the company is led by Louis Carey Camilleri, as CEO, while John Elkann is its president. Both succeeded Sergio Marchionne just a few days before his death: the manager had been driving the Reds since 2014, when he had replaced Luca di Montezemolo.

Ferrari arrives at this anniversary with the enthusiasm of two consecutive victories in Formula One, both signed by the rising star Charles Leclerc: however, the Drivers' World Championship (and also the Constructors') seems destined to escape this year too, and Maranello is missing from the now distant 2007, when he imposed himself Kimi Raikkonen. However, many great champions must be included in the glorious history of the Cavallino: in no particular order Michael Schumacher, who won 5 consecutive World Championships with the Red: Niki Lauda, who died a few months ago and triumphed in the 1975 and 1977 championships despite a stormy love-hate relationship with Maranello; Gilles Villeneuve, remained in Ferrari until his death, in 1982 on the Zolder circuit, and still in the hearts despite the zero World Championships won.
