HAPPENED TODAY – Bitcoin, 11 years ago the first purchase: two pizzas

The world of cryptocurrencies has been causing a lot of discussion in recent months, first with the absolute record of Bitcoin which has exceeded the $50.000 valuation, then with the inevitable collapse, which halved its value, burning hundreds of billions of dollars. Today, however, an important anniversary is celebrated: May 22 is the Bitcoin Pizza Day, because it commemorates May 22, 2010, when there was the historic purchase of two pizzas using Bitcoin. A good 10 Bitcoins to be precise, which at that precise moment were worth 41 dollars: an already very high figure for two pizzas, but nothing compared to the 1,2 million in 2013 or the 60 million in 2019, to name a few.

The curious event is remembered with the name of "Lazslo's pizzas": in fact, that day Laszlo Hanyecz ordered 2 pizzas from Domino's, in Jacksonville, Florida (there is a plaque in the pizzeria to commemorate the event), making one of the first payments in history in cryptocurrency. Laszlo himself commemorated the 2018 event with the purchase of 2 more pizzas by paying through the Lightning Network and this time spending a total of approximately 0,00649 Bitcoin. The buyer has become famous all over the world and also has a page on the Wikipedia section dedicated to Bitcoins, in which he is even listed as the first buyer of a good in virtual currency: "First buyer of a good".

The fact is remembered every year on May 22: various pizzerias around the world "honor" the memory of that incredible purchase and reserve special offers for their customers to become new Laszlo too, by paying for some pizza in Bitcoin.
