HAPPENED TODAY – 50 years since the death of Jim Morrison

On July 3, 1951, exactly 50 years ago, he died in Paris Jim Morrison, leader of the historic American band "The Doors". He was yet to turn 28.

A true popular icon, Jim Morrison was not only a songwriter: thanks to his lyrics and his stances he became a point of reference for the revolutionary counterculture of the second half of the 60s. Even today he is remembered as one of the most charismatic musicians of the 900s, as well as a sort of embodiment of the concept of youthful restlessness.

The construction of his myth also contributed to his premature death, still shrouded in an aura of mystery. Based on official version, Jim Morrison's body was found in the bathtub of the apartment he shared in the French capital with Pamela Courson, his historical partner. The cause of death was identified in aheart failure probably caused by aheroin overdose, which proved fatal on a physique already weakened by the abuse of alcohol and drugs.

However, an autopsy was never performed on the singer's body and the burial process was completed very quickly. These circumstances fueled suspicions, prompting fans everywhere to elaborate more or less fanciful theories on the last hours of their pet's life.

The most extreme is also one of the most recurrent in these cases (just think of Elvis or Marilyn Monroe), because it has to do with the human incapacity to accept death. According to a thesis that has been circulating for a long time, Jim Morrison would only faked his own death, mocking everyone, to then lead a secluded life. Over the years, as always, there have been sightings and photographs in support of this consolatory reconstruction. To insinuate some doubts about Jimbo's death has also recently contributed Ray Manzarek, former keyboardist of the Doors, who in 2008 served up the Daily Mail the story that Morrison is enjoying life in the Seychelles.

Unfortunately, the truth is that no theory can ever be confirmed or denied. The only eyewitness to what happened that night, partner Pam, was found dead just three years after Jim Morrison. If she was keeping a secret, she took it with her.
