Abramovich: at least 4 billion of assets transferred to children to avoid sanctions

Roman Abramovich would be able to "save" billions of dollars from international sanctions. According to an investigation by Guardian, the Russian oligarch allegedly passed on to his children the trust property containing assets worth billions of dollars shortly before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was revealed by some confidential documents viewed by the newspaper after being stolen by a hacker from a Cypriot provider who administers Abramovich's trusts.

10 offshore funds for at least 4 billion

The English newspaper reports that, according to the files analysed, the former Chelsea president at the beginning of February would have radically reorganized 10 offshore funds of the total value of at least $ 4 billion (but the figure could be much higher), transferring the property to the 7 children, including the youngest who is only 7 years old. The reorganization took place three weeks before the outbreak of war and after the first Western threats about the possibility of imposing heavy sanctions if Russia invaded Ukraine, which it did.

The trusts would include luxury properties, super yachts, helicopters and private jets. These are revelations that could now lead to new sanctions, this time against Abramovich's children.

In March 2022, just days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the UK froze the assets of Abramovich and other oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin. Abramovich had also been forced to discard the Chelsea, turning ownership of the team to a consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly. At the moment he would live in Istanbul, Turkey, where he would also transfer four yachts.
