Film censorship definitively abolished in Italy

Film censorship has been abolished, which dates back to a 1913 law which introduced a real censorship intervention on projections, in order to prevent the representation of obscene or impressive shows or shows contrary to decency, decorum, public order.

"Cinema censorship abolished, the system of controls and interventions that still allowed the state to intervene on the freedom of artists has been definitively overcome", said the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini who signed the decree establishing the Commission for the classification of cinematographic works at the Directorate General for Cinema of the Ministry of Culture with the task of verifying the correct classification of cinematographic works by the operators. An intervention pursuant to the Cinema Law which introduces the classification system and definitively overcomes the possibility of censoring cinematographic works: there is no longer an absolute ban on theatrical releases or conditional releases on cuts or modifications. The Commission is chaired by the President Emeritus of the Council of State, Alessandro Pajno, and is made up of forty-nine members who have been chosen among experts with proven professionalism and competence in the film sector and in the pedagogical-educational aspects connected with the protection of minors or in social communication as well as designated by parent associations and animal protection associations.
